I have some posts I'm working on, but I'm just not quite ready to post them. So in an effort not to fall off the NoBloPoMo wagon this early in the month I'm just going to tell you what I've been working on tonight.
I've finally gone through both my girl and boy clothes and pulled out for storage all the too small sizes and summer clothes. I've really been putting this off too long. The problem was that both my two-year-old and one-year-old are running a little small on their sizes. I would normally think to do this around the time they go into a size change age, but that's not working for them, because if I do that, the next size up swallows them. Last time I did the Changing of the Clothes I left the clothes that still fit and added clothes from the age appropriate size. Seemed like a good idea at the time, but it resulted in a constant kid hanger shortage. The frustration over the kid clothes hanger situation was getting critical and some stuff had to go.
I have a pretty obsessive kid clothes storage system. I love me some big plastic storage bins. The plain, gray, 18 gallon, Sterlite brand from Target is my favorite. Really, I always ask for plastic storage bins for Christmas and rarely does anyone ever get them for me (however, I did get one Christmas colored one this past year).
Below is a picture of some of the bins I had my husband bring up from the basement to ease my sorting:
You're still reading?! Well, since you're still reading about my obsessiveness in the mundane, I'll go ahead and share just how particular I am about my storage system.
There are categories and rules. My first category separation is naturally boy bins and girl bins. Although, I do have one bin dedicated to Neutral clothes 0-12M (months). Beyond 12 months I figure I just have to commit one way or the other, boy or girl. Within the boy bins and girl bins I have sizes in three month increments for the first year, six months for age 12-24 months, and 2T-5T has one bin each. I haven't designated any kid clothes bins beyond 5T yet. I also have rules about sorting (I know you're going to be totally interested in this!). Say you have a shirt labeled 6M. Does it go in the 3-6M bin or the 6-9M bin? My rule is that it goes in the younger bin, because that is, theoretically, the first time a child could wear that piece of clothing. Same kind of rule for 6-12M clothes. Does it go in the 6-9M bin or the 9-12M bin? Again, it goes in the earlier one for the same reason. Still with me? Bless your heart. I also have kind of an arbitrary rule for 24M versus 2T clothes. It totally depends on what the label says. Clothes labeled 24M go in the 18-24M bin, and clothes labeled 2T go in the 2T bin. Beyond that I think it's pretty self explanatory.
Now don't you feel enlightened and enriched having read that? I promise, better blog fodder to come.
I found this awesome new site that helps keep me organized in a way that is so easy and natural to use that I actually use it!
